Shere Hite suggested that women were more successful with clitoral stimulation when alone (82% of her sample) than with a partner because stimulation during sex is never continued for long enough i.e. up to the point of orgasm. The inference is that either men are too selfish/lazy to provide or women too timid to ask for sufficient stimulation for orgasm.
Not only do I think this unlikely but Kinsey noted that women only need an average of 4 minutes to orgasm alone. No one considers the very different psychological contexts for sex and masturbation alone. My suggestion is that women's use of fantasy cannot be transferred to sex.

“Those who orgasm regularly during clitoral stimulation by hand during sex with a partner comprise approximately 44% of the total.” (p59 The Hite Reports 1993)

Shere Hite suggested that women were more successful with clitoral stimulation when alone (82% of her sample) than with a partner because stimulation during sex is never continued for long enough i.e. up to the point of orgasm.
